The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House will host Bedminster’s Field of Honor® at River Road Park. The tribute will celebrate our nation’s independence and honor those who have served our country and loved ones with a display of over 200 American flags in the north field of River Road Park along Route 202/206 in Bedminster beginning Saturday, May 14 through Saturday, July 9. On Saturday, May 21 the community is invited to stroll through the Field of Honor®, picnic on the grounds, listen to live music by the White House Wind Symphony and enjoy historic demonstrations from 11 am to 3 pm. Proceeds from the flag sales and event will support the general operations and maintenance of the historic Jacobus Vanderveer House. Flags are $60 to purchase or $40 to adopt. Each will include a personalized dedication that will be included in our May 19th Field of Honor Celebration program featuring our valued sponsors. Families of active-duty military personnel (including National Guard and Reserve) can dedicate a flag at no charge (compliments of The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House) while supplies last.

What is Field of Honor®?
The Field of Honor® program is part of a national movement that started out as a way to commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

In just a short amount of time, the concept has grown and communities like ours across America are turning to Field of Honor® tributes to raise money and awareness for a growing array of causes. The Field of Honor® is a community project of remembrance, and an expression of humanity and patriotism.

About the Jacobus Vanderveer House:
The Jacobus Vanderveer House served as headquarters for General Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79 and is the only known building still standing that was associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, believed to be the first installation in America to train officers in engineering and artillery. The Jacobus Vanderveer House interprets Dutch colonial life in America as well as the stay by General Knox and his family during the 1778-79 encampment. A National and New Jersey Historic Site, the Jacobus Vanderveer House is a true landmark that offers a vivid look into the history of our country and the lives of those who made it.
